Winter is coming. Hand skin care step by step

Hello!

Have you started your beauty preparations for winter? Do you have the right cosmetics and have you booked time for spa treatments? If not, I will tell you how to take care of your hands, which is one of the few parts of the body that is most exposed to dryness and irritation. Ready? let’s begin!

Sensitive skin of your hands

Hands are constantly exposed to harmful external factors, contact with detergents and mechanical damage to the epidermis and there are several reasons why it happens. First of all, the skin of the hand is very delicate, sensitive and thin. There are hardly any sebaceous glands on the back of the hand, which task is to moisturize the skin. Sweat glands are located on the inside. However, they do not provide adequate protection and do not moisturize the skin in a proper way.

Secondly, your hands are constantly exposed to atmospheric conditions and contact with harmful substances. High temperatures, dry air, wind or frost have an adverse effect on the skin. Similar activity is demonstrated by detergents and other ingredients contained in at-home cleaning agents. The negative impact of both atmospheric conditions and chemical preparations can be avoided by using creams and putting on wool gloves in the winter or rubber gloves for your household chores.

Thirdly, cosmetics, treatments and general care are of great importance for the condition of your hands. If you use properly selected products and, from time to time, do regenerating and nourishing treatments (alone or in a beauty salon), your hands will look healthy and well-groomed. However, if it is completely different, you may get irritated, the skin will start to flake off and it will be dry. Your nails will also be affected – they can split up and lose their natural glow.

Last, but not least, the condition of the hand’s skin also depends on whether you are undergoing any diseases or taking medication. Various infections and preparations prescribed by a doctor may affect the appearance of the skin and nails, causing dryness, discoloration, and damage. If you are suffering from any dermatological disorders, they will also affect the look and health of the skin. I’m talking about, among others: albinism, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, eczema and onychomycosis.

How to take care of the skin of your hands?

1. Good ingredients

When purchasing any hand care product, make sure to pay more attention to whether it contains certain ingredients. A cream, a mask, or a hand scrub must contain:

  • urea and glycerin – moisturize dry and rough skin;
  • vitamin E and collagen – rejuvenate and firm the skin;
  • retinol, hyaluronic acid – strengthen the skin and retain water inside of it;
  • D-panthenol – soothes irritation and atopic dermatitis.

2. Smooth hands

Once a week, treat your hands to an exfoliating scrub. You can either use one of the cosmetics available in the drugstore or create such a product on your own. You will need: salt or sugar, olive oil or another natural oil, lemon juice. Massage your hands and the cuticles until the particles dissolve. Rinse with lukewarm water and apply a moisturizing cream.

3. Young skin of your hands

Hands get dry very quickly and this leads to the formation of wrinkles and discolorations. The aging process is additionally accelerated by environmental pollution, adverse weather factors, indoor heating. To firm the skin of your hands, regularly moisturize them with rich creams, make paraffin baths and exfoliate dead skin cells.

Hand care vs. household chores

Before you start cleaning out your house, make sure to apply a generous amount of cream and cover your nails with a nail serum. in this case, the best will be a semi-rich or very rich product, which will create a protective coating on the skin shielding against the action of detergents. Apply the oil to the skin around the nails, then put on gloves. If you are allergic to latex, choose rubber gloves lined with cotton. Remember that after finishing the cleaning, do not wash your hands in hot water, because it dries out the epidermis. All you need is a lukewarm stream of water and a moisturizing liquid soap. Also, make sure to dry your hands thoroughly, do not rub the skin and do not use a rough towel – paper or cotton towels will be a much better choice. In the end, apply a hand and a nail cream again.
