My hair changed the colour! A few words on natural hair colour fade

The subject of hair colour techniques is a common one, but it turns out that our hair doesn’t need our help to change its shade. Haven’t you known about this? Well, our hair becomes discoloured naturally and there are many reasons why this happens. The most common cause of our hair losing saturation is owned to exposing the strands to the sun. Would you like to learn more about this phenomenon? Feel free to read my article!

From brunette to blonde

Just a few years back my hair was chestnut…

It used to be dark and reflect sun rays by shimmering with a beautiful gold-and-brownish colour. Today, all that’s left is this golden shade. Month after month my hair was becoming lighter so I had to end up with dark blonde colour. Of course, that wasn’t an immediate change because I had to undergo a transition through light bronzes and a little bit gingerish shades. The overall length of hair hasn’t changed because at the roots my hair is still dark.

It’s also worth mentioning that I didn’t overexpose my hair to the sun and I didn’t apply chamomile products that might have highlighted my hair. In general, my hair care was standard and it wasn’t connected with anything what might have encouraged colour fade. Therefore, how is it possible that my hair has changed the colour so much without being damaged nor weakened?

The experts explain why hair changes the colour of its own accord

I searched the half of the Internet to find the answer on this vexed question ‘Why has my hair got lightened up with age?’. It paid off because I managed to find the answer and I’m going to share it with you 🙂

As it was easy to foresee, the key role here play genes and melanocytes. After all everything is in our genes, isn’t it? This mechanism is simple. Natural colour of our hair depends on the amount of the above-mentioned melanocytes produced, which are pigment-containing cells. These travel to our hair bulbs to produce a pigment (melanin) there. If a hair bulb loses the pigment, we can observe grey hair. When it comes to the hair lightening up procedure, it’s important to bear in mind that there are two kinds of melanin – one gifts hair with dark shade and the second one provides hair with light or reddish shade. The level of both types of melanin is different in every human and together, with the changes that take place in our organism, these can alter. To sum up, if the production of melanin is limited, our hair turns from brown into blonde, for example. And there is nothing weird about this.

Have you ever come across such a situation? 😉
