Makeup primer. Which one to choose and how to use it?

Hello!

A makeup primer is a cosmetic that many women cannot do without. It is very useful and works wonders for every skin type. Discover which one will be most suitable for you and how to use such a product correctly.

What is a makeup primer?

A makeup primer is a cosmetic that prolongs the durability of a foundation and nourishes the skin. Apparently, it keeps makeup on the face for up to 12 hours. We can distinguish mattifying, smoothing and brightening primers. The product mattifies the complexion, unify the colour, moisturize the skin, brighten the face and even provide nutritional ingredients. Interestingly, many other cosmetics such as: tonics, creams, serum or mists can play the role of a makeup primer.

The types of makeup primers

  1. Silicone makeup primer – works best for dry and sensitive skin. Water-based foundations last long hours on the skin. What’s more, it creates a protective layer on the face which is aimed at preventing water loss and protecting against harmful external factors.
  2. Oil-based makeup primer – creates a protective layer on the face. It can be replaced with natural oils that will facilitate the application and make the foundation runnier. They are recommended for people with dry and oily skin.
  3. Glycerin-based makeup primer – will work very well with water-based foundations. Unfortunately, it makes mineral foundations separate and flaky.
  4. Gel makeup primer – reduces the visibility of skin pores, smoothes and moisturises the complexion. It can be used with both mineral and long-lasting foundations. Also, it will be a good choice for people with oily skin.
  5. Mattifying makeup primer – absorbs excess sebum and reduces the visibility of skin pores. It is easy to apply and remove. It’s most recommended for oily skin.

Colour-correcting makeup primers

In the drugstores, you can find a range of coloured makeup primers. They will help you cover up any imperfections, for instance, dark under-eye circles, discolourations, dilated capillaries. You can distinguish the following colours of makeup primers:

  • purple – it masks yellowish skin tone and discolouration of the same colour,
  • green – covers red spots and red blood vessels,
  • peach – illuminates a dull complexion,
  • blue – evens skin tone,
  • white – brightens the complexion.

What kind of makeup primer do you use on a daily basis? Which one is your favourite? Leave a comment! 🙂
